Kelly Wolfert
First job on a set? Getting coffee. Then wrapping cables. Somehow that glamorous start still hooked Kelly into a career in filmmaking. To be successful as a director, it’s imperative to understand all levels of the process of production. Production assistant, driver, SFX, sound recordist, assistant editor, grip, gaffer, dolly grip. Ok, ok, you get the point. Kelly has worked all of those roles in his 30 years in the industry since his start at age 14. Mentorship has been a key in his success in not being stuck with just one style. But it’s mentorship you wouldn’t expect. As a cinematographer for 24 years, Kelly had the opportunity to watch some of Canada’s best directing talents in action. That front row seat allowed Kelly to take the best techniques away and create his own style.
