Carey Newman

Carey Newman is a master carver and artist who works with wood, stone, gold, silver, gems, glass, steel and bronze. He spearheaded the large-scale art installation, “Witness Blanket,” a national monument to Residential School Survivors. He designs and creates everything from fine jewellery to giant totems, from steel sculptures to a travelling monument. He has co-directed a documentary, produced a mobile app, studied classical piano and been a professional opera singer. Through public commissions and community engagement projects, his artistic and social justice interests have intersected, and he has become an advocate for Indigenous rights.
