Charlene Hickey

I'm a First Nations woman originating from the Cree community of Saddle Lake in Edmonton Alberta. I moved to Victoria 7 years ago to pursue my dream job of becoming a clinical counsellor. I started my educational career in the Early Childhood Education Diploma at Algonquin College, I then went on to do my Master's degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of Victoria. I currently work in UVic's counselling services and have experience working with all ages of individuals – children, youth, adolescents and the elderly. I honour diversity and am very mindful of one’s cultural upbringing and beliefs; I aim to apply traditional Indigenous ways of knowing within the realm of Western academic institutions, creating a space for open and respectful dialogue.
