Am I Eligible?
Who is eligible for STORYHIVE funding?
STORYHIVE funds projects grounded across British Columbia and Alberta. To ensure we support community-based, locally relevant storytelling, we require all applications to have a Project Lead from British Columbia or Alberta. STORYHIVE projects must be reflective of the community in which the Project Lead resides to receive funding. The following guide outlines the role and responsibilities of a STORYHIVE Project Lead.
Who is the Project Lead?
Anyone can be a Project Lead! You can even be a first-time producer or filmmaker. You’re also not required to be your project’s producer, director or fill any other key creative position. The main requirement of the Project Lead is that they are a current resident of an eligible community in BC or Alberta.
What does the Project Lead do?
The Project Lead is the applicant who, if successful, signs the TELUS Grant Agreement and receives the grant money. Legally, the Project Lead is the grant applicant who is required to meet eligibility criteria and manage the application requirements during the application period.
If awarded a grant, the Project Lead must submit documentation requirements, manage production expectations and deliver the finished video to STORYHIVE by the deadline.
The grant is awarded to the Project Lead and is non-transferable.
The Project Lead retains all the rights, including copyright and releases, to the completed project.
Are there restrictions around who can be Project Lead?
In addition to the residency requirement, there are a few additional restrictions around who can be a STORYHIVE Project Lead. The Project Lead cannot:
Have received a broadcast licence from a Canadian broadcaster in the last five years.
Be considered a media professional who already has access to the mainstream broadcast system or who is known to the public.
Project Leads cannot be an individual associated with TELUS, including but not limited to the following: the employees, contractors, agents and representatives of TELUS, Optik TV, TELUS Satellite TV or another broadcast distribution undertaking (a BDU) such as Shaw Cable, Shaw Direct or any other Canadian cable or IPTV service provider, or any external partners of TELUS who enter into an agreement with TELUS to assist in any way with this STORYHIVE Edition.
